Monitor the ambient light. Sensitivity is easily adjusted using the onboard potentiometer. The Ambient Light Sensor also features an I/O connector to allow the digital signals and power to pass through to other devices.

very simple and easy to use and adjust. You can also generate digital pulse by connecting analogue out to digital IN. a simple way to do this would be useful without more delicate wiring. 1 star off for this.  Also, you are going to likely need some way to mount and position the sensor - I recommend Sugru
